Hi class, Please post comments about some of the following questions or about others related to your relationship with your mobile phone: Do you identify with any of the mobile phone users who appear in the documentary? In which ways? Are you addicted to your mobile phone? Do you know anybody who is? Could you live without a mobile phone? In which ways has it made your life easier / more difficult / different? Do you normally get annoyed when people use their phones in public places next to you?
Like many other people, I was a student who had to live in a boarding school for some years and share flats at university. Nowadays mobile phones let you keep in constant contact with the family and friends, but, those days when you were able to talk to somebody only by public phones on flat rate hours, (normally starting at 8pm), everybody needed more patience, because, sometimes you couldn't find the person you were asking for and You left a message, or nobody were at home, and you called a neighbour for an emergency. People needed each other more, so You got to know your own neighbours more than now do. I remember those large queues on cold days waiting for your call turn. I have to say they weren't happy days so I don't feel much nostalgia. We sometimes complain about lack of freedom being traced all the time but I think it's up to you if it makes you to be always in a rush. If you don't want to be bothered, you only need to switch off your mobile, or change it to silent profile. Like all inventions, what matters is the way you use it.
As for me, I am not particularly hooked on my mobile phone although I find mobile phones, generally speaking, pretty useful. They allow you to be in contact with people no matter where you are, you can text your friends, write notes in them, use them as Mp3s, as a clock alarm you name it. Actually, I can´t imagine life without them cause I have had a mobile phone since I started to go out with my friends, at the age of twelve. It is obvious that they make life easier but not only for youngsters but also for adults. In fact my parents still control me by my mobile phone just with a call. On the other hand, we must be careful if we do not want a nasty surprise with the bill. A friend of mine had to pay more than 300€ in a month. It seems impossible but it is true. Finally, I am not the kind of person who gets annoyed when people use their mobiles in public as long as they do not speak too loud or use swearwords. That gets on my nerves!
I think that I am not addicted to the mobile phone, I recognize that I use it a lot, because I always use it to set in it my alarm, write notes and when I am alone I use it to speak because it is a way to not feel you alone. Also I have used it so much because I also have been living out of my house and it is the best way to keep the contact with your friends or family, I think that like I have said I am not adicted to it, but I need it, because it is the best tool when you have to travel or when you are not with your people. I hate messages, I prefer a call because I think that in a message you can't say all the things you want and in a call you can; but also it is true that when you don't know very much the other person is better the message. I think that I am not identified with nor mobile phone users that appears in the video. In the university everybody said that I was addicted to my mobile phone because when I arrived to class I was always speaking, but it is because like I have said it make me feel that I was no alone. I believe that everybody could live without mobile phone, the problem is that it is very confortable because you have a lot of things in it so you don't need a clock, a camera, a phone, a MP3... because you have all in only one applicance. It's true that the mobile phone can control us, but I think that it's our fault, because we can choose if we want answer or no, so the last word it is our hands. I get annoyed when there are somebody speaking very loud if I am trying to study or read, but if I was talking with one friend or I have nothing to do I don't mind.
